What is Radon Gas?
Radon is a Class A carcinogen. Radon gas is proven to cause lung cancer in humans.
Many homes in the Gilbert area have a radon gas concentration near or above the DNS action level.
Radon seeps out of the topsoil, not the building. No house- new or old – is fully encapsulated against radon contamination.
Each house interacts with the soil underneath it differently. This is why houses adjacent to others have dramatically different radon levels.
Radon gas accumulation will fluctuate daily and with the seasons within a normal range. A short-term radon sample measures a small period and is a good indicator of if the property has a radon gas saturation.
Radon has a half-life of about half a week. That means radon gas saturation will not be worse if the house is sealed for years or months.
No dwelling is airtight.
Vapors may infiltrate through any grounded vent in the property such as drainage, plumbing pipes, and even minor gaps in the foundation.
The technique to know with certainty the concentration of radon in the home is to run a radon test.
Measuring a home for radon gas is a special procedure when completed as a part of a property sale.
Your radon gas professional will position the radon gas detectors in the house. Radon gas detectors are dropped off in crawl spaces, the level above crawl spaces, and any room touching the earth. Typically, a few analyzers are installed on the property for the radon analysis.
Your radon technician will shut windows, shut the flue on the chimney, and confirm the HVAC system is functioning in the required manner. Our radon professional will additionally mark any necessary window with tamper-proof tape to make sure that ventilation requirements are upheld.
The radon gas probes are left in the building for 2-3 days to record the saturation of radon gas in the property. A technician will come back to the structure after the radon measurement is done to remove the probes and generate a report.
